Oriental Rugs - A Beautiful Addition to Your Home

by Rory H. Hawkins
In the dining room or in your study, on foyers or on stairs, Oriental rugs look natural wherever you place them. Geometric patterns or simple designs, bright colors or light tones, they enhance the beauty of your rooms.

Fragments of ancient rugs found in the Tarim Basin, which includes modern day northwestern India, East Turkmenistan, southern Russia, western China and Mongolia suggest that Asia was the first to produce rugs. Thus the term Oriental rugs refer to those created anywhere in Asia.

Buying an Oriental rug is quite a task, especially if you are buying it for the first time. There are various factors to be considered. To begin with the size of the room for which you are buying plays a pivotal role. For dining rooms the size of the table may be considered, while for bedrooms the area in front of the bed may to be considered. Quality of rugs depends on knots per square inch; higher number of knots will guarantee a clearer and sharper design. Quite the same manner in which you judge your digital photos by dpi. Some experts also suggest that you look out for imperfections in an Oriental rug to judge its authenticity. This may sound strange but it is said that weavers make intentional mistakes on a perfect rug, as they believe that only the Supreme Being can make something that is perfect.

Oriental rugs are more durable and environment-friendly than mass-produced machine-made rugs, as they are made of natural fibers like cotton, wool or silk that last longer and as these are handmade each strand has been tied individually for greater strength and consistency.

Weaving of Oriental rugs is a delicate and tedious process. Mainly two types of knots are used – the symmetrical Turkish knot or the asymmetrical Persian knot. The number of knots per square inch may vary from 16 to over 500. Horizontal or vertical looms are used to weave the rugs. Horizontal looms are preferred for weaving smaller rugs while the vertical ones are used for bigger ones. Depending on the quality and size of the rug it may take from only a month to several years to complete.

As Oriental rugs can be a costly affair it is important that you make sure that you are buying an original one. You may make use of experts while buying and some rug dealers also provide a certificate of authentication with their rugs.

Choosing And Care Of Oriental Rugs

by Mark Freeman
Nothing says opulence for your floors quite like an oriental rug. Actually, some say the correct way to design a room is to design a room "around" an oriental rug.

Generally the price of a carpet is figured out by the amount of labor and art put into the rug. When considering a rug you will want to consider the quality of the wool and the dyes used in the construction of the rug.

Some carpets that are passed off today as oriental carpets are actually machine made. Experts can tell the difference by looking at the nap of the carpet. A machine is not able to tie knots as a hand is, therefore a machine made oriental rug will have the nap of the carpet stuck between the base and the wefts. Another way to tell if a carpet is machine made is to check the back of the rug. If the nap is of polypropolene, polyolefin or synthetic wool it is most likely machine made. Also, on a machine made rug the fringe is usually sewn directly to the carpet backing and is not a part of the rug as it is with a handmade rug. Make sure that you are dealing with a reputable carpet dealer who specializes in handmade rugs. This is one of the ways to avoid paying more than you should.

When you purchase an oriental rug there are a few do's and don'ts. First, a good quality padding will help to protect the rug, it will also help to prevent it from wrinkling or moving. Generally oriental rugs are placed over hard flooring. A good quality pad can add many years of life to a rug. Rotate the rug frequently. This will help prevent any obvious over-wear on one part of the rug. Try to keep the sun off the rug as much as possible to prevent fading. Remember, this rug will probably outlast any other furniture or rugs you have in your home, and twenty or twenty-five years worth of strong sun can fade wool rugs.

Cleaning your rug is also a consideration. Never have your rug dry cleaned. Never have an oriental wool rug steam cleaned. The steam will remove the essential oils from the carpet which will make it brittle and cause it to wear faster. If you find your rugs needs something other than a mild surface cleaning with water find an expert to do the cleaning for you.

Expecting your first child? Or are you too concerned about your baby's health? You can wave away some of your blues by getting that right blanket for the apple of your eye and watch your little ones sleep comfortably.

Baby blankets are great gifts, whether you want to celebrate the arrival of a baby or a baby showering event. Baby blankets come in all shapes, sizes and designs. Though newborns spend most of their time sleeping but you must remember that they are very active even in their sleep, rolling to one side then to the other. So it is advisable to buy a blanket wide enough to cover their territory. Babies grow fast so you should also consider the length when buying. The length of your baby's blanket may not be enough for the next season. Often blankets come with teddy bears and Mickey Mouse attached to them. They may look nice but not always the most comfortable ones. Blankets with Disney characters or your baby's favorite animation hero may be a good choice. You may also choose blankets that match the color of your baby's room.

Baby blankets come in a variety of materials - satin, fleece, wool. When buying keep in mind that the blankets should be plush, super soft, light and comfortable. Blankets should also be durable and last long. Buy blankets that are easy to dry and do not lose shape, texture or color after repeated washes. You can also buy blankets with beautifully designed embroidery or appliqué work or with laces and trims. But care should be taken that these do not affect your baby's comfort.

You can buy blankets in various sizes depending on your need - for the bed, pram or car or blankets that can be used for all. Babies are as unpredictable as the Wimbledon weather. It is important that you have sufficient numbers so that you can grab a new one when the dirty ones are sent to the laundry.

Personalizing baby blankets by getting your baby's name or date of birth embroidered on the blankets is also a great idea. For mothers who are more creative you can also sew the blankets on your own and add a personal touch. Care should be taken that the edges of the blankets are tight and secure and no threads or trims have been set lose.

Mink Blankets

Mink Blankets

Mink Blankets - 5 Things You Don't Know About These Luxurious Blankets

By Adrian Whittle
Mink blankets are not made from the fur of the mink animal. The mink that is used for blankets and other items is an acrylic fabric, totally man made. The idea of calling the product mink is the same as the thinking behind the fleece blanket, which has little to do with a sheep or any other animal for that matter. The words are marketing terms to conjuror up vivid images in our minds of comfort, warmth and luxury. Even so, mink blankets are noted for being extremely soft, warm and dense.

Genuine Korean mink blankets are made in South Korea, the name is not another marketing ploy. The idea and production of the mink fabric was started in China and Korea and the name has stuck. The fabric is acrylic, man-made and has no animal products in it.

Mink blankets are noted for their imaginative motifs and colourful designs. Popular motifs include animals, such as Tigers, Lions and Wolves. A wide variety of themes are available however and you will find that the blanket can set the ambience of your bedroom. The theme of your bedroom can be set and centered around the motif on the blanket. The blanket can help to create the atmosphere in the room.

Mink blankets are very easy to care for. Unlike natural fibers, Mink blankets are machine-washable provided the wash cycle is gentle. Hanging on a line will dry them. The blankets can be ironed if needed but care must be taken as the fabric can react badly to strong heat. Using a protective cloth that dampens the heat is the best way to approach ironing.

There is a differing grade of quality of mink fabric. Like most goods, there are two ways to differentiate between the grades: the feel and the price of the blanket. As price is a hard thing to judge value with, it is best to feel the fabric in your hands. The softness and weight of the blanket should give you an indication of the quality of the blanket.

Mink blankets are the imaginative second cousin of the more traditional wool and cotton blankets. For someone looking for a unique style in their bedroom, mink blankets are worth investigating.

Area Rug

Area Rug

Area Rug Secrets For You

By Ms CiCi
Some people have the money to purchase expensive area rugs, and even switch their area rugs around to suit the seasonal colors. However, in this article we are going to mainly focus on the "budge conscious." Many of the high-end online sites that sell area rugs offer tips on buying, caring and selecting the right area rug. A search on the internet offers a plethora of online retail stores that showcases a multitude of rustic cabin area rugs in various designs, patterns and colors. As with many types of products in the consumer world, like fashion, contemporary changes in decor often draw on past designs, and that is certainly the case of area rugs. So take the time: visit these high-end sites; LEARN from their expertise! Then, armed with your new knowledge, you will not only have a good idea what you want in an area rug, you'll also be better equipped to spot a BARGAIN!

And yes, you can find great area rug bargains online. Before choosing an area rug online, it's important to exercise all of the same techniques and precautions that would be used if you were buying from a store.

By adding an area rug to your home you can spice up the dull looking floors, add some color and character to a room, and add a warm touch for your feet on those cold winter days. Wood floors and area rugs complement one another amazingly well; wood floors are elegant and easy to clean and area rugs offer a variety of options to accentuate the character of a room with wooden flooring and also act as a source of warmth for the feet on cold winter days.

When selecting your area rug take a sample of the wall paper or a color sample of the wall paint and a sample of material which covers the furniture with you.

Bamboo, which is also a trend in cutting boards and hardwood floors, has become a popular option for area rugs. Woolen area rugs are also a great option for homes with hardwood or concrete floors. Area rugs are also a great option for a home with hardwood floors. All area rugs that are placed on hardwood floors or laminate floors should be laid over top of a good non-slip underlayment, which can prevent accidents.

If you are not a homeowner, and are currently renting, area rugs are a fantastic way to personalize your living space without jeopardizing your security deposit, or other cleaning fees after you leave. Inexpensive area rugs are a great solution to give your rooms a new look. There are area rugs for any room you want: the child bedroom or playroom, bathroom, the living room, and the dining room.

While some area rugs that are made of the natural fibers can have a rough or course feel to them, they can still find a place in the home, whether in the main living area, dining room, or bathroom. For example, you can cover the main portion of a room with an exquisite carpet and place a beautiful area rug in the remaining part to complement it. More valuable information can be found at: http://www.area-rugs-4U.info

Usually rectangular, rustic cabin area rugs are made from topnotch quality materials for longevity with intricate designs featuring the flora and fauna of the great outdoors. These rustic area rugs are created to transport the buyer into the realm of thick forests and timberland, with abundant wildlife. Keep your hunger for the outdoors satiated in your own home by using rustic cabin area rugs. This will keep you in the mood until your next outdoor trip.

Decorating a home with rugs will definitely give your home a 'new look.' We cannot stress enough: Take your time in choosing the right rug as it can either make or break a room.

But not today, not for this occasion, you would certainly want something out of blue to highlight your mood and put elegance or romance to your bedroom. Lets start with the comforter. This could prove the most expensive accessory of a bed, but this also is the most important one too. Be very careful before putting you hands on just any comforter that looks nice. First get the measurement of your bed as nowadays designers are making comforter in different sizes then the standard sizes. Do keep in mind the TPI or threads per inch. This thread counts above 250 generally means a more soft and comfortable texture plus the fabric will also last long.

Another suggestion that can really change the look of your bedroom is to find a comforter having design on both sides. And the last but not the least be sure that a down comforter is stitched so that the insulation material cannot move about very freely or shift. So now when you decided your best part of bed accessory. You can move to the most decorative part of bed. Yes, of course the bed sheet. On special occasions a bed sheet doesn’t remain a simple bed sheet it becomes The Bed Sheet. Do you want to spellbound your newly wed wife when she enters the threshold of your bedroom, then this is the time when you can do it. Have a bed sheet so elegant and soft that she fells in loves with your bedroom when she enters it first time.

You can go for unique "Duchess Lace" graceful sheet or if its too much of a design in it for you. Then you can think of satin or sheer silk bed sheet that will add elegance with a touch romance in your room. The people who use silk it becomes an addition for them, they wont use anything else for their bed sheet. So on this special occasion indulges you in silk. But if you are a trendsetter and dare to be different you can also think of beautiful floral or bright colored patterned sheets. Or if you don’t want to do it on your own and just need the branded stuff then you can close your eyes and get Marcus, Ralph Lauren, Damask bedding and bath accessories.

Now the last touch of splendor that will equip your bedroom with all the necessity and comfort you need. Blanket, you are right. A bedroom is incomplete without it. Cuddle in the lavishness of 100% pure cashmere and rest with the sweetest of dreams. Only when cashmere touches your skin will you know the meaning of complete luxury. Amazingly, this bedroom treasure is a versatile double-sided blanket, neatly trimmed with a silk edge. Add more spice with matching branded bath accessories. Or you can get the accessories of your choice and match or contrast it with your room. Add velvet towels or cotton towels with monograms, floral designs and embroidery. Don’t forget the brush and soap dish bar, rugs, shower curtains, showerheads, wastebaskets.

Bathroom accessories

Bathroom linen sets.

You can see famous Maker Supima Washcloth, Martex Egyptian or Avanti Maui embellished linen sets. You can also decorate your bath with creative bath linen sets. These sets are available in all sizes and colors, from plain one color to patterned or embroider multicolored sets best known for their softness and durability.

You can hang a classic royal style wall mirror to treat yourself royally. Depending on what you choose for your bath, you can have a table with mirror to save some room in bath. To organize the accessories you can use tower cabinet. And if you posses a king size bathroom, you probably would like to have separate furniture for everything like you may want a separate stand for towels. And by the way hand carved sinks are very much in. Or on the other hand for a small bath use a wall cabinet along with simple and stylish glass self that’ll really serve the purpose.

It is the first step and you should get all the hardware accessories with utmost care as you are going to match or contrast your all other accessories with it. The towel stand, lights, bathtub or Jacuzzi, taps, towel holders and tissue holders are small pieces but all together they make a huge difference. Don’t underestimate the effect of these tiny winy things.

Bathroom rugs

Hmmm does this seem easy to you, think again. This is where your innovations come in. The company designs the Bathroom hardware but now you have to either match or contrast your rugs with it. Still sounds simple, let me explain. The pattern and colors can play a trick on you, try to compliment your other accessories and don’t get too gaudy designs that can give a very complicated look and of course you dont want that. You can also avail the unique option of carved shower rim that gives a very innovative look. Then you can go for border, full design, floral, stripped, hook less, single panel, anti mould shower curtain. Your bath now can reflect your taste provided you keep everything in mind.

Wastebaskets

Wastebasket a must for every room but could look quite out if do not suit the whole set-up. This little item can make good impact to the surrounding. You can have different shaped baskets, round, square, diamond shaped basket. You can get cloth basket, marble, metal, wooden, plastic, glass basket. Then wastebaskets are available that have inner disposable bin you can change.

Bedding

Bedding

Exclusive Luxury Bedding

by Richard Hedley
One of the pleasures of having your own space is the enjoyment of providing luxury bedding for your sleeping arrangements. Luxury bedding means different things to different people, but at the very least it means having something special to sleep on. It doesn’t even have to be expensive. Luxury bedding can simply be a texture, color or style you enjoy.

Some people consider the feel of silk sheets to be the ultimate in luxury. The natural fiber against the skin gives a sensation of elegance like no other. Silk sheets as a item of luxury bedding needs about the same level of care you provide your silk blouses and scarves. It’s definitely not something to throw in the regular cycle of the washing machine with hot water.

Silk sheet sets come in a variety of colors and weights and are often sold as part of complete bedding set including sheets, comforter, pillow cases, shams and perhaps even a dust ruffle. Other silk sheet sets are more tailored in appearance, relying on color and feel to set the tone of the luxury bedding.

Other people choose luxury bedding of Egyptian cotton in Italian designed linens. The heavy cotton sometimes relies on woven patterns in the fabric to add texture and richness. These may take the form of stripes of regular and satiny texture in a white on white pattern for example. The warmth and durability of the quality Egyptian cotton means you can have luxury that wears well and can stand laundering without special handling.

At a minimum luxury bedding will have a high thread count. Ordinary bedding will have a thread count of 180 to 200. Luxury bedding might have a thread count of over 1200. Obviously the higher the thread count, the more luxurious the look and feel of the sheets.

Luxury bedding for many people is satin sheets, They claim to sleep better because when turning or moving on these sheets, they don’t pull at the clothing and skin as some of the regular bedding does. The drawback to some satin sheets is that they require more care when laundering than do cotton bedding.

Part of the enjoyment of luxury bedding is the wide range of colors available now. You can find bedding sets in almost any color you can imagine from neon to white and with flowers, stripes or solid colors. Theme bedding is available if you want a bit of whimsy with your luxury.
